Description

NGC 3185, NGC 3187, NGC 3189 and NGC 3193 are all **spiral galaxies** in the constellation Leo, about 75 million light years away from Earth¹². They are part of a group of four galaxies called **Hickson 44** or **Arp 316**, which also includes NGC 3190¹²³. They are also members of the **Leo II Group**, a larger assemblage of galaxies that belongs to the Virgo Supercluster¹².

NGC 3185 is a barred spiral galaxy with a ring-like structure around its nucleus. It has an apparent magnitude of **12.17** and an apparent size of **2.4′ × 1.2′**¹². It can be seen with a medium-sized telescope as a faint smudge of light near the star 140 Pup¹².

NGC 3187 is an unbarred spiral galaxy with distorted arms due to gravitational interactions with its neighbors. It has an apparent magnitude of **12.99** and an apparent size of **3.0′ × 1.4′**¹². It can be seen with a medium-sized telescope as a faint smudge of light near the star 140 Pup¹².

NGC 3189 is a barred spiral galaxy with tightly wound arms and a bright nucleus. It has an apparent magnitude of **11.8** and an apparent size of **3.6′ × 1.8′**¹². It can be seen with a medium-sized telescope as a faint smudge of light near the star 140 Pup¹².

NGC 3193 is an elliptical galaxy with a smooth and featureless appearance. It has an apparent magnitude of **10.9** and an apparent size of **3.0′ × 2.4′**¹². It can be seen with a medium-sized telescope as a faint smudge of light near the star 140 Pup¹².

The star 140 Pup is a **yellow-white giant** star with a spectral type of F5III. It has an apparent magnitude of **4.6** and is located at a distance of about **390 ly** (120 pc) from Earth. It can be seen with the naked eye as a bright yellow-white star near the star Rho Puppis.

The star 2 Pup A is a **yellow-white subgiant** star with a spectral type of F6IV. It has an apparent magnitude of **6.9** and is located at a distance of about **390 ly** (120 pc) from Earth. It can be seen with binoculars or a small telescope as a faint yellow-white star near the star Rho Puppis.

The star 2 Pup B is a **red dwarf** star with a spectral type of M0V. It has an apparent magnitude of **11.8** and is located at a distance of about **390 ly** (120 pc) from Earth. It is the companion of 2 Pup A, orbiting it at a separation of about **40 au**. It can be seen with a medium-sized telescope as a faint red star near the star Rho Puppis.
